Prenatal Yoga FAQ

"Your class
was one of the best things I did to prepare for my bambina's arrival! I
always felt so relaxed and rejuvenated after yoga and slept super well on
Wednesday nights. I would totally recommend your class to any
pregnant friends, and will hopefully take it again myself!" ~
Danielle VanHorn
If you don't find the answer to you question here, please
email or call me! I'll be happy to answer any questions that you have.
When can I start?
Anytime you feel comfortable. All women are welcome in class, no matter
how early or how far along you are. It's never too late to start prenatal yoga.
What if I'm nauseas?
Some women feel like prenatal yoga helps reduce nausea. Others
like to wait until their nausea has faded some. It's up to you. In
general, if you're feeling o.k., then it's fine to start prenatal yoga.
I've never done yoga before. Is that o.k.?
Absolutely! Beginners are welcome. Pregnancy is actually a time when many
women start yoga due to being a gentle and safe exercise for pregnancy.
How
does prenatal yoga differ from a regular class?
There are certain yoga poses that you cannot do while pregnant. In a
regular class, you would either sit those poses out or be offered an
alternative pose, depending on the instructor. Sometimes that gets tedious
for a pregnant woman.
In a prenatal yoga class, we don't do any poses that are
unsafe for pregnant women and we do a lot of poses and movement that
actually aide in preparing your body for giving birth. In our prenatal yoga
classes, we also have a circle time at the beginning and do a lot of
breathing that can be used to help you during labor. See the
Benefits of Prenatal Yoga for
more about this.
Do I need my doctor's or
midwife's permission?
Yes. Please be sure to check with your doctor or midwife
to make sure it's o.k. for you to do prenatal yoga. I don't require notes :),
but I assume that you have already checked with them regarding the class. Usually just a quick call to their office is enough to get an o.k.
What do I wear/what do I bring?
Wear
something in which you are comfortable moving and stretching. Usually a pair of leggings or shorts and a tank or snug t-shirt is fine. It's not hard to find snug when you're pregnant, so wear those clothes
you're outgrowing to prenatal yoga
!
Please bring a sticky mat, a strap, and a block with you.
You can purchase a "Yoga Kit" locally at places such as Target, Borders,
or Whole Foods. Ebay also has some good deals on kits.
In addition, you're welcome to bring a towel or small
throw pillow for the relaxation period.
Is it
o.k. to bring water?
Yes! Please feel free to bring a water bottle into class with you.
It's important to stay hydrated during pregnancy and especially during
prenatal yoga.
What day and time does it meet?
Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:45 p.m. are my regular classes. Please check the
Prenatal Yoga Classes page to see
which class/session is open. Sometimes one class will close before
another.
Can I
do more than one day?
Absolutely! I would be happy to see you in class two times a week!
When you complete your registration form, just check that you want to
attend both days - it's right at the top.
How much does it cost?
Usual cost is $112 for the entire
8 weeks for one day per week. If you want to attend two days per
week, it's $214 (you get a small break). Occasionally I run a short session, which
then costs less. Please double-check the
Classes page to make sure which
session you are signing up for and how much it costs.
Where does it meet?
Lisa's School of Dance and Gymnastics in Plantation, Florida.

*Please make checks out to Elizabeth Bonet.*
You also have the option of paying by
Paypal.
If you choose this option, you still need to either snail mail or email me
a completed registration form. If you email it to me, you can sign it the
first class.

-
I will email you to confirm receipt of your
registration and your spot in the class.
The session already started. Can I still sign up?
As long as there is room in the class, you can join a session up until the second week. If it's after the second week, then you'll have to wait until the start of
the next session. Sorry, no drop-ins without prior approval.
Oh No!
The class is closed! What are my options?
You can receive announcements for
upcoming prenatal yoga sessions.
Jiwan is the other main prenatal yoga teacher in the area.
She usually teaches in Coral Springs and Hollywood. Please contact
Jiwan directly for
information about her prenatal yoga classes.
Ruth Ann is one of the few certified Iyengar yoga teachers in the
entire area. She's fantastic and is my personal yoga teacher! If you
are not a beginner, try one of her regular classes. She will modify poses
for you as time permits. Also, for
post-pregnancy yoga, go to Ruth Ann! Visit her website,
The Yoga
Institute of Broward, to see her class schedule.
Temple Arts Yoga Studio on University and Broward also will modify
poses for you if you want to join one of their regular classes. I haven't
been to them myself, but had a student who recommended them.
Do you
recommend any prenatal yoga DVDs?
Yes! Prenatal yoga DVDs or videos make it easy to practice yoga at home or to get
started if you didn't get in the class. See my
Prenatal Yoga DVD reviews page for reviews
of some popular videos and DVDs.
I
really want in the next session. Why don't you accept registrations any
time?
Current students always have priority in my classes. First, I have to see
how many are signing up for the next session before I see how many spots I
have open for new students. The other reason is that I don't like to run
to the P.O. Box all the time!
To make sure you get in the next session, join my
Announcement List. Once I send the notice out,
register immediately. My classes usually fill up within one week.
My due date is before the
session ends. Should I sign up?
Sessions are prorated for due dates. If you want to attend and you're due
four weeks into a session, then you only pay for four weeks. After
that, you can pay class by class. You need instructor approval to do
this, so please give me a call or drop me an email prior to registering.
Do you
teach Mom and Baby Yoga?
No, but others do!
Memorial West has a mom and baby
exercise class that includes some yoga. Nova Southeastern University's
Mailman Center offers a class. And now
Yoga Source in Coral
Springs offers a Mom and Baby Yoga class.
I had my baby and now want a
regular class. Do you have any recommendations?
Yes! Ruth Ann Bradley is a fantastic teacher and one of the few certified
Iyengar Yoga teachers in Broward County . She teaches in Cooper City. Check out her
Iyengar Yoga website
for details about her classes!
I have more questions.
Please feel free to call or email
me any time. Also check out

may be answered there.
